Giving Tuesday has become a special part of the holiday season. After the shopping frenzy of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is a chance to help your community. Many organizations offer extra perks for donating that day. Some workplaces may agree to match the amount of your donation, too. How to Support Local Teachers and Schools on Giving Tuesday 2022
Your money often does the most when you give locally, directly to schools and teachers that really need it. You can contact a local district or school (or follow them on social media) to find out how to support them on Giving Tuesday. Or, try these options.
Amazon Wish Lists
A lot of teachers make individual Amazon Wish Lists for their classrooms. Ask your local teacher if they have one, or do a search on Amazon to find a list. Teachers, if you don’t have an Amazon Wish List, learn how to set one up here.
Donors Choose allows schools and teachers to set up projects and ask for funding. For instance, a teacher might want to raise money to buy a new rug for circle time. Donors can search locally or by the type of project they’d like to help fund. Teachers can learn how to set up a Donors Choose project here.
Adopt A Classroom is similar to Donors Choose, but it’s specifically for the supplies teachers need for their classrooms. In 2021, they’re doubling your donation (up to $10,000 total) on Giving Tuesday, making your money go further.

If you’d like to find ways to support schools and teachers that need the most help on Giving Tuesday, a national organization is a good choice. Those listed here are some of the best around, with top scores on Charity Navigator. They focus on getting teachers, students, and classrooms the supplies and support they need.
Children’s Literacy Initiative
CLI’s goal is to ensure low-income students can read at or above grade level. They provide coaching, materials, and workshops, with a strong commitment to racial justice.
Fund for Teachers
Funds for Teachers provides grants to teachers so they can develop projects that improve the learning experience for students. They’ve awarded more than $33 million in grants to deserving educators so far.
Khan Academy is a nonprofit with the mission to provide a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. Their website is a terrific source for lessons, practice exercises, videos, and so much more. They use donations to help keep their resources completely free for all students and teachers.
The Learning Accelerator
The Learning Accelerator provides teachers with free, action-oriented strategies to improve their skills. Their resources include programs, research, and other support.
Learning Forward Foundation
To stay on top of their game, teachers need meaningful and affordable professional development classes. The Learning Forward Foundation awards professional development grants and scholarships to educators.
The Mr. Holland’s Opus Foundation
If you’d like to support music education in schools, this is a terrific way to do it. The foundation provides instruments to underprivileged school music programs and students in need.
The NEA Foundation was founded by educators for educators to improve public education for all students. They provide teacher fellowships, along with grants for districts and schools.
New Teacher Center
The NTC is focused on providing coaching to teachers, administrators, and other educators. Their goal is to retain and train educators to build an equitable, sustainable culture in their schools and classrooms.
Run by the Volunteers of America, Operation Backpack provides necessary school supplies to students in need. They work in various cities and states, ensuring kids have the supplies they need to succeed each year.
Teach For America
There’s no doubt that it’s becoming more and more difficult for underprivileged schools to recruit quality teachers. Teach For America aims to change that. They support aspiring teachers, in exchange for their commitment to teaching in a low-income community for at least two years.
